Practical ways to pivot during a crisis.

For the last two years, our live Toast & Jam events (formerly the JK Breakfast Series) have been a way for us at Jan Kelley to share our insights and perspectives on the world of marketing. We’d open our office doors on the third Thursday of every month, greet our guests with open arms and invite everyone to enjoy hot coffee and a warm breakfast during our collaborative in-person session.

But now, we can’t.

Our doors are shut. Our buffet tables are empty. And we won’t be shaking hands any time soon. In fact, one of the few truths left in that previous paragraph is the word “Thursday.” This, right here, is just one of the ways our business has been impacted by COVID-19. Something so routine as a monthly speaking engagement was turned completely upside down, almost overnight. So, what did we do? We did what we advise our clients to do all the time.

We pivoted.

Now, our live, in-person session isn’t in-person at all. For the foreseeable future, we will be hosting our Toast & Jam Speaker Series as a live, virtual webinar (and we’ll share recordings of each session, too). We still get the opportunity to share our insights and perspectives. We still invite everyone who’s interested to attend. And, yes, it’s still on a Thursday. And, yes, it’s still on a Thursday.

Obviously, nothing could have prepared you for the impact COVID-19 is having on your business. In just a few short weeks, organizations around the world have had to accelerate production, modify their operations or shut down completely. But just because you couldn’t prepare, that doesn’t mean you have to stand still.

In our live, recorded session, we talked about how you can pivot your marketing efforts by focusing on:

  • How you can adjust your marketing approach to match new customer behaviours
  • How to help your sales team adjust to a new way of selling
  • How to break through all the clutter and add more value on social media
